"Privilege" with Dana Marie
Peel back the layers of the just world fallacy, implicit bias, white fragility, and internalized oppression.

My number one qualification for facilitating a discussion around privilege is that I’m a human doing my work. I’ve done enough of the work that the only Project Implicit bias I still test positive for is my internalized bias against fat, which is what I’m working on now.
My undergrad degree was in cultural anthropology. My master’s is in education: curriculum & instruction. I taught middle and high school for 13 years, ten of which were in two different Native communities. Teaching forced me to confront and work through many aspects of my privilege as I found different ways to communicate the need to solve for y and find x.
My relationship of the same 13 years with my now ex-husband, who is black, brought my awareness to other aspects of my privilege in a system built on slavery and perpetuated through racism.
Through my study and work on curriculum design at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, I continue to observe and peel back the nuanced layers of the just world fallacy and its resulting victim blaming, internalized oppression, othering, and projection. I, along with my coworkers, endeavor to create an inclusive and representational curriculum.
